Has anyone figured out a way to take margin or sticky notes on the ebook as you are reading and studying it? 3rd party utility? AutoHotKey? Alternate pdf reader? Macro?

Functionality of all the 3d party pdf notetakers I've found come with the disclaimer, "subject to security settings". Does the fact that "commenting" is not allowed (File/Properties/Security) render it impossible to use such utilities to take notes or place stickies directly onto the pdf?
I'm trying to save a tree and money (ink cartridges). I'm originally from Oregon where littering and failing to recycle, et cetera are capital offenses.

Sorry for the run-on question, but if anyone has experience using the full versions of Foxit, Sumatra or PDF_Annotator on Windows, please share re your ability to notetake.

I'm using Adobe Acrobat Pro 7.0, and I am able to use sticky notes, as well as underline, highlight, etc. I'm not sure if annotation is only allowed in the pro version, and not acrobat reader…

I use Foxit Pro and absolutely love it. It includes everything ranging from sticky notes, different color highlighters, underlining/strikeout, I can attach audio files (sometimes I like making a quick audio note using a free tool such as Audacity) and the list goes on. It's real easy to use and worth every penny.

Pete and drew, thank you much for your replies.
Pete, I took the Foxit free trial out for a spin. I did the custom install to try and avoid all of the promotional crap but still ended up with a browser toolbar and a reader that was not quite ready for prime time.
Is it safe to assume that the $30 Foxit Pro-pack is more functional, fluid, and to the point, better for annotating my copy of SSNLHE?

Pete, one last question re Foxit.
Do all the things you mentioned, the annotations, underlines, et cetera change the original pdf or are they more like Foxit overlays? In other words, would it be prudent to save an unmodified copy of the book, or does the pdf stay unmodified regardless of what you do to it in Foxit?

Wouldn't it be easier to just have Ed and the team enable the commenting feature in Adobe Acrobat? I mean, it seams a little crazy to pay $40 for an e-book and then have to pay $30 for software to 'highlight' it. In the pre-publishing promotion, it was said that they would do everything to make it so you could use it like a real book, which I think means highlighting and making notes in the margins. Funny thing, they have allowed you to cut and paste sections, which I am doing as my only way to remember the important parts, but that seems like a much bigger security risk for them in the long run.

Hi Guys,
I'm sorry about the commenting thing. I had intended to allow commenting in the PDF, but apparently I messed it up. I created a new version (v1.0.1) that should allow commenting and generally have the permissions set up more like how I envisioned them. Please email support@smallstakesnolimitholdem.com if you'd like this commentable version.
EDIT: I just tested this version with Adobe Reader 9 and you can indeed create sticky comments and save them.
In the next week or two I plan to go through the book and fix the first round of errors and typos people have found, and then I'm going to offer an official update release to everyone who has bought the book, and that version should have commenting enabled also. So if you aren't urgently awaiting the commenting functionality, you can wait a week or two and probably get it as an automatic update.

Ok on clickable table of contents. I tried to do that pre-release but couldn't figure it out fast enough and ran up against the deadline. I'll work on it for next release.

Please correct me if I'm wrong: If I request the "notable" version (pun intended) any coments I create will be lost when I upgrade to the next official update.

Thanks Ed! I look forward to the comment functionality….and of course I have plenty to chew on while awaiting the updated version, so I'll take your suggestion and wait a couple of weeks for all the updates….

Yes, unfortunately that's correct. It's the main reason I recommend just sitting tight on what you have until the update is out. It's also a reason why we don't want to send out like a million little tiny updates.

I sent an email last week requesting the commentable version and have yet to hear back from support. Is there a link you can post for it?

Have you had a look at some of the open source readers? I haven’t looked at the e-book through them yet (on Linux), but they are a ‘lighter weight’ version of Adobe, and offer much more flexibility.
