What is more interesting is the SOURCE of the article…a website entirely devoted to gambling problems/addictions. Of course they will bash any form of gambling as they are trying to steer their target audience away from any gambling at all (rightfully so if they have a serious problem or are in major debt)

Some of the author's statements clearly come from a man who clearly has not researched the subject tjhoroughly or played much poker. Yes, it is a tough way to make a living, and yes most players are losing players. But he makes way to many blanket statements like "NOBODY can make $$ long term, most pros don't play or make $$ online..etc. etc." There are probably tens of thousands of players worldwide who either win a little or break even, make a nice second income, or make a VERY good living at online poker. So while the article makes some decent points about the house's advantage, it's anything but an objective, unbiased source.

It's from a gambling addiction site…this would be like asking Rush Limbaugh for an unbiased opinion on Barack Obama Confused

OHHH……I get it now…you work for or with the website and you're hitting up all of the poker/gambling related messageboards online with the soft sale Cool I see

Good luck to you. I do agree that gambling addiction is a major problem, and it seems that website is doing a good thing.

For me personally, I have a very steady day job. I only play as a serious hobby, and I play well within my bankroll, and have actually profited a little while learning the game.

I enjoy the game of poker like someone would enjoy backgammon and chess (which also is played for big $$$ LOL). The fact you can make some decent money at poker is just a bonus to me. I was never a big "gambler, and rarely bet $$ outside of very small friendly wagers amongst friends (sporting events, etc)

Unlike some gambling types, I'm not driven by money. I just love the actual game of poker, it's a fascinating study of human nature. The $$ is just a bonus, and ups the intensity a little. The way I look at it is people spend thousands of dollars on their hobbies every year,  but this is hobby you can actually MAKE money at if you work hard. But self control is a extremely important.

Certain personality types can get in a lot of trouble though. Those with obsessive complusive/ addictive personalities or those driven by material things and $$ can really lose it if they are not smart.

I agree that online poker is highly addictive and that rake makes it far harder to win.  Also, the house does better than any player.

There are also enough recreational players spewing money into the system to allow pros to exist and thrive.  It's just harder than it was a couple years ago.
