6 handed NL. Hero raises from MP and gets a call from BB.

BB is a TAG. What is his typical calling range?

BB is a LAG. What is his typical calling range?

(In the book I seem to recall them basing the range off the player's overall VPIP in one example. But even a LAG tightens up in the blinds so his range should be narrower, right?)

Now say the hero is on the button. How would the BB's calling ranges change?

I'm going to assume this is a 3x raise.  So you've got the BB calling 4 to win 7 in a 1-2 game.

I don't think the range is that different in either case.  If they are a good LAG or a good TAG you shold expect them to have a pretty nice hand.  88+, ATs+, KJs+, AJo+, KQo.  If the guy has a read on you he may be playing all kinds of stuff.  He's getting almost 2-1 to play so if he thinks he knows your range you may get some suited connectors and lower PP looking to hit a flop and stack you.

I also doubt that QQ+ or AKs,AKo just call you here.

Of course there are a ton of other places that a TAG and LAG differ, but playing one raiser when you have the button for 2-1 doesn't seem like there's going to be much of a difference.  It is a great let's see where we are and bail if needed situation.

If you are the Button things change a good deal.  If the player is a thinking player they are putting you on almost any hand and they don't need that great of a hand to just see the flop when the odds are at this point.  If your trying to steal against this kind of player I'd probably raise to 4x or 5x.

I play six handed very little and never online so this is how I'd play if was in the BB, knew you were a thinking player and the stacks were pretty deep.  At least one out of five times when I have suited connectedness I'm going to call and if I hit the flop with top pair and an over card or better I'm going to check-call and then check raise the turn if no scare card comes and you're not going to know which way is up and probably call thinking I'm bluffing.  I'll push on the river and you'll tank and call or fold…I'll take either.  It will pay for the 4 times I call/ check the flop and fold to your c bet.

In your HEM/PT3 db you should check out the Fold To Steal and 3bet To Steal stats – it may help shed some light on how certain players are playing in the blinds.  You can also try using a bunch of filters to get what you need.
