5-5 Cash Game – I'm viewed as solid player but a little bit loose. Villain is typical live player. Not maniac, not tight, just average run of the mill player. Limp Call range includes JT+ and Small PP. I've seen him play 3 hands nothing out of the ordinary.

JQd on the button

Villain limps UTG

I raise to 25

Villain calls

Flop JT6 two spades / 1 heart

I bet 35

Villain Calls

Turn 9h

Checks Around

River puts 3 of hearts

He bets 80?

I find this situation happening a lot in my live game. I raise in position with so-so hands JQ/ KQ / KJ / AT /offsuit and suited. I fire flop, pot control turn, and then get donked into.

Flop is standard – should I check / bet turn? If I did bet 2/3 or 1/3?

River is……snap call? or……crying fold?

***EDIT -  I've posted this on other forums and some great points I recieved are.  By checking the turn I induce a lot of bluffs on the river in which cause I should always call river.  I've also gotten I should milk for value on the turn to maximize on donkeys. Would love to hear everyones thoughts.  I reposted because I think it's a very common situation in live and a lot of us can benefit from understanding this spot.

Player dependent, I agree with both of these.  With not-so-sophisticated (but trying to think) opponents, you'll see this bet mean a lot of things.  Misguided value bet, good value bet, bluff, etc.

As the OOP player, this is the line to take to get about 1 street of value from hands as strong as 2 pair that beat you.  It's also a line to pick up a pot that looks orphaned.

As the In-position player, I don't love the turn check.  You are saying "I have <= 2pair, no draw" on a board with 3 straight cards, and 2 flush draws.  Bet the turn, check the river.

Here, the OOP player can now legitimately rep about 1/2 the deck as cards that helped their hand.  Maybe they called the flop to see what you'd do, and backed into something.

On a drier board, I'd lean toward a call.  On this board, I'd probably kick myself for misplaying the turn, and fold.

Definitely bet the turn – mainly for value (additionally for protection). There are no (!!!) merits in giving a freecard on this wet board.

If you decide to check behind the turn for pot control it depends on Villain. If he is capable to bluff on the scare card I´ld definitely call the river – b/c a) you induced the bluff and b) the runner-runner-flush is way less likely than two spades who missed  (despite he could have tried to c/r the turn with KQ). If Villain indeed is a super-ABC-player (maybe even on the nitty side of life) you can fold the river …

if this is the type of villain who is tricky enough to checkraise the turn on a semi-bluff, you should call the river. if this is the type of villain who is NOT tricky enough to cr the turn on a semi-bluff, you should've bet the turn.
