For various reasons I've recently been exploring cash head's up play. I enjoy the constant decision making and the opportunity to figure our the playing style of one opponent, rather than a table-full of opponents. Because of the large number of decisions my opponent is required to make a playing style generally emerges fairly quicly.  True, some are tricky. The better ones try to play a style that is more difficult to exploit. But, for most opponents a style quickly emerges that can be countered.

I guess I'm looking for some serious feedback on how well the concepts of SSNLHE translate to the HU game…. especially the cash game. (In tournment play the blinds are often so high the head's up aspect of the game becomes more of an exercise in ICM knowledge).

There is not much on the market in terms of books devoted to HU cash. I was wondering if anyone has some serious thoughts about this book and it's use as a "primer" for head's up matches.

Thanks… Terry

I have also recently transitioned to more heads up cash play. I think you can apply many of the concepts in SSNLHE to heads up play.

For starters, SSNLHE teaches a loose aggressive style, which is generally considered the ideal style for heads up. Also, the idea of raising very liberally in position can be applied to have the button heads up. Same for REM, SPR, commitment thresholds, and barrelling.

Also, I found the section on balancing betting lines and using fixed raise/bet amounts especially helpful in disguising your hand strength in heads up play, since you are playing many hands in a row against the same player.

..and eventhough it covers more heads up SnGs than heads up cash, I would still check out Collin Moshmans' Heads Up NLHE book. There is some good info there, and to my knowledge it's suprisingly still the only book solely dedicated to heads up play. (that was a BIG hint for Ed, Sunny and Matt!!! Wink)
