For those not familiar with Flopzilla (free), I'd strongly recommend taking a peek at it immediately! This product has so many amazing features, however, I use it primarily to understand various ranges. So for example, with a simple slider.. I can set it to a paricular VP$IP, and see what hands that entails in a really easy to follow color chart.
For me, here's how I started:
1. I learned 5,10,15,20,25,30 VPIP hand ranges
2. I learned up to 50 VPIP hand ranges
3. I started working with the slider to see what are the major differences between 15-20 and 20-25 etc..
3.5 I figured out if a player was something like a 18/14, what did that mean in each position. In other words, as we approach the button, the hand range should open.
4. I figured out roughly what hands I'd play from each position
5. I came up with a plan when I'd adjust the VP$IP based on certain game conditions. For example: In 6 max, I play 13/11 UTG, 17/14 UTG +1.. however, when there are a number of tags at the table.. I might adjust to a 17/14 UTG 17/14 UTG +1 (extremely simplied, but that's general idea)
6. I start to figure out what my given equity would be given opponents ranges
Just some ideas…
