"If you have to ask, you can't afford it."

– J.P. Morgan

Yeah, I know it's an inherently stupid question but, assuming that one reads (then digests, studies, and groks) SSNLHE, how much might one expect to make multi-tabling? Single-tabling  for those who've never adapted to multi-tabling?

Okay all, pull those guesstimates out of thin air.

Here's what we say about it in the book.

We want you to play poker at a professional level. That’s our goal. Online $1–$2 6-max represents a critical threshold for professional players. Good $1–$2 pros make a good living—$10,000 per month or more even with a relatively relaxed playing schedule. So when we teach you to beat an online $1–$2 6-max game, we’ve taught you to play at a professional level.

If you prefer playing live, you’re in for a real treat. Taking someone who can beat an online $1–$2 6-max game and putting them in a typical $1–$2 or $2–$5 live game is like taking a professional football player and putting him in a game full of 14-year-olds. The pro will run absolutely rampant.

This book teaches an aggressive style. If you play online, you’ll be playing against a fair number of players who have seen this approach before and who can fight back. But if you play live, often none of the players at the table will have any clue how to defend themselves against you. You can pick them all apart. Anyone who can make a living playing online $1–$2 6-max can also make a living playing $2–$5 or $5–$10 live no-limit.

If you single table I'd cut that $10,000 number down to $1,500 or so. Though to be truly honest, I've never met a single person who plays online poker seriously and single tables. They probably exist, but I don't believe I've met one.

Interesting.  So you are assuming that most professionals are at least 6-tabling.

I have heard that some people actually 12-table or more, so I guess that's not too outlandish.  I have to say though that the thought of 12-tabling is mind boggling to me.  I guess I'm just too old.  I never thought I was ever going to say this, but certain things do get more difficult when you get older…  Frown

I can't 12-table 6 max effectively.  Sadly, video game skills decline a lot with age.

PLO at most 4 if I want to take advantage of others' playing habits.  6-max 6 if I have to pay attention, perhaps 8 if not.  Tournaments 8.  Stud hilo 8.  This is on a 15-inch laptop so maybe if I played on the Samsungs one or two more.  I hate stacking tables.

Does the book talk about a recommended amount of tables to play ? i assume this will be 4 – 6 ,  how about the number of hands to play ? ive played over 60k hands in 6max and seem to be a small winner with the help of rake and bonus , i find it hard to know weather or not im playing good because there are so many ups and downs , i feel like variance is preventing me from knowing how good a player i am or even im able to beat my limit

Here's some numbers to consider:

Modest number of hands / Modest winrate

Rate: 3ptbb/100 —Number of hands: 60,000

100nl – $3600/month – $43,200

200nl – $7200/month – $86,400

Modest number of hands / Stronger Winrate

Rate: 4ptbb/100 — Number of hands: 60,000

100nl – $4800/month – $57,600

200nl – $9600/month – $115,200

Oh wait, you're not that strong? Let's see how increasing the number of hands and lowering the winrate effects the results:

Strong number of hands /Lower Winrate

Rate: 2ptbb/100 — Number of hands: 90,000

100nl – $3600/month – $43,200

200nl – $7200/month – $86,400

It's the same results at 3ptbb/100, however, we have to put in additional hands.

Other notes:

Rakeback (~27%)

100nl – Full Ring ->~ $1.25/hr per table

100nl – 6 max -> ~ $2.00/hr per table

200nl – Full Ring -> ~ $2.00/hr per table

200nl – 6 max -> ~ $3.00/hr per table

You can see why mulittabling is so profitable at these stakes. This does not even factor in reload bonuses and other perks on most poker sites.

# of hands per hour (Like anything else, these number will change depending on a number of factors)

Full Ring 55-65 per hour

6 max 75-90 per hour

I think this book will help you a lot. It will give you a check-up on a lot of concepts you may be currently unsure of, and the whole point is to get the student to a point where he can analyze his own game. Also, we have a whole section about variance as it relates to number of hands. That in and of itself may be eye-opening to you.
