Page 156- Value Betting against a Weak Player

loose, bad villain limps in cutoff

hero in the big blind with JJ 3 bets

villain calls..flop Ad As 7c …you both check

turn..Ac..hero bets $20..villain calls

river…Qs…hero bets $50 into the $60 pot..Villain reraises all in…hero has a fairly easy FOLD??

- I'm assuming we are playing w/ $200 stacks. After the river bet, we have $80 invested in the hand (40% of our stack) well past the commitment threshold. Shouldn't we at least conisder calling his all in?

- Given that the player has been pegged as "loose and weak" and has a very wide range. Is the generally scary board, and the Q on the river, the reason this is an "easy" fold?

- Wouldn't this fold fall under the "it's major leak to fold once you have a large % of your stack invested?" category? Frown

Tricky one. Thanks for any imput! Great book!

AAAQ board, you've bet hard on the turn and river, then villain pushes.  what does he have?

i'd say he is about 98% to have the case A or a Q.  think about it from his perspective.  he might call the turn bet with any pocket pair, but he is not raising the river with 88.  meanwhile, your line "raise preflop from the blinds, check AA flop, bet turn, bet river" screams ace.  i say he may have A or Q because maybe he thinks a Q is gold there and that a push will get called by a weaker hand.  but if we call i would expect to see the case ace.

the commitment issue is:

don't put a third of your stack in and then fold UNLESS you are bluffing OR new information makes you think you now have the worst of it.  here the new information is the guy pushed when it would be tough to push with even top full house.

hope this helps!

Thanks for the imput Matt! That makes sense. I think one of my current leaks is not adjusting my commitment LATE  in the hand when new information presents itself. This is a great example of that.
