So I really enjoy having this book as an ebook and would enjoy it if there were a wider selection of poker ebooks out there. So here's what I was thinking. My work has a photocopier that will put things into PDF format and then send them via email. I was thinking of pulling the bindings off of a book that I have now and running it through there and converting it to PDF. Has anyone tried this before or done something similar? How did it turn out? I don't really want to ruin a book in the process only to find out it's not going to work the way I thought. I've been tempted to do a test run with a couple pages out of a book.

I know it can be done. Only caveat would be to check out whether the copyright allows it or not.

I'm not a lawyer and I don't play one on TV, but you might want to take a look at this:

Basically, yeah, you generally can do it but you generally may not.

But…. I just found this under the same link as above… I would be using it for research purposes so technically it's perfectly legal… Though I'm not a lawyer either. I tried to read in to some more of the different clauses that are there but I don't do lawyer speak all that well. Hopefully I'm interpreting the below correctly.

§ 107. Limitations on exclusive rights: Fair use40

Notwithstanding the provisions of sections 106 and 106A, the fair use of a copyrighted work, including such use by reproduction in copies or phonorecords or by any other means specified by that section, for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship, or research, is not an infringement of copyright. In determining whether the use made of a work in any particular case is a fair use the factors to be considered shall include —

(1) the purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of a commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes;

(2) the nature of the copyrighted work;

(3) the amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole; and

(4) the effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work.
