Not sure if anyone reads this forum, but I love SSNLHE – I like the 'go back to the basics' format and info that I can use at 6max NL50.

I bought the online version quite a while ago for $99, but am just getting to dive in indepth.

I am struggling w the info on ranges.  I understand the concept, but at NL50 I play, villian range determination just doesn't work to a usable level.

In short, opponents will just show up at showdown with virtually any two cards.  For example, I had a player yesterday call my button raise with 52o (and of course he hit 2p)

So, how to adjust for this?  It is fundamentally good to have a opponent generally call with trash, so that's a positive.  I've been thinking the best response is to raise big with good cards preflop, c-bet A LOT, and get out of the way if opponents raises or re-raises post-flop.  Oh and excercise pot control to showdown with those 1 pair hands.

Am I making a mistake to generally avoid thinking about my opponents hand range?  It seems like games where everything goes, you have to dumb things down.

When guys are really loose, particularly peeling loose postflop, then the main adjustment you want to make is exactly the opposite of one thing you said… you DON'T want to play your one pair hands for pot control. You want to play them for value. A hand like K-Q on a Q-high board would not be a good hand to fire three streets with against a nit, because he's never paying off with worse. But against guys who flop bottom pair with 5-2 and peel twice, top pair is a huge value hand that you should be betting basically three times unless the board begins to really look ugly.

It's not that you stop thinking about hand ranges. It's that you need to give your opponents credit for wide ranges, and then adjust your play accordingly. It means more value betting and sometimes also more 2nd and 3rd barrels (when turn + river cards brick off, for instance).

Ed,  thanks for responding.

I know what you mean.  When I mentioned pot control, I was thinking more about 2nd and 3rd pair.  With TPTK or TPGK, I usually take the line of making my opponent pay dearly on the draws. At least until they fight back.

I guess what I am trying to say is if I raise with AK, get called by a fish oop and the board comes 2 T K rainbow, I can't give credit to villian to remove K2 or T2 from his range.
