"The math of the 5-bet shove is more forgiving. In the above

example, a shove for $200 risks an extra $176 to win about $83. At

first glance it might seem like you’re laying heavy odds, but

remember that you will always get to see a showdown when you

shove, so you will always have showdown equity as well as steal

equity. Your light 3-betting hand matched up against a typical 5-bet

calling hand will usually offer you about 25 percent showdown

equity. So you will, on average, recover about $100 from a $400 all-in

pot. Thus, the 5-bet shove risks effectively $76 ($176–$100=$76),

and you’re not really laying odds since you are risking effectively $76

to win $83."

I'm totally confused with the math.  You started with $200 and made to bets totaling $56.  Your stack is now $144 or if you shove after being 3bet, you still have only $193.  How can you make a 5Bet shove of $200?

I must be missing something but I can't figure out how to put these numbers together.  A little help please.

The authors have switched to the perspective of the 3 bettor.  The 3 bettor has made one action…the 3 bet to $24 and is now facing the small 4 bet.

Thanks for the reply Mike.

I understand what you're saying but I still can't find $200 to 5Bet shove with.  They started with $200 and made a $7 raise.

I believe they are saying that Villain raises to $7, Hero re-raises to $24, and Villain 4-bets to $56.

Hero has $176 behind at this point.  The phrase "a shove to $200" is used by the authors to mean raising an additional $176 to an all-in of $200.
