I found a great thread on 2+2 that should give people an idea of one way to run a study group.

**Official SSH Study Group Thread** Week I

I would certainly be interested in assisting anyone that wants to take on this project. Maybe we could have different leaders responsible for different segments of the book? I just want to get it moving and get us discussing.

Truthfully the only thing the "leader" of this group has to do is determine how many pages to read/week.  Unless the leader is going to come up with study questions ahead of time, that's really the only responsibility of the leader.

It's easiest if it's someone who has already read the book, but that's not really necessary.  The only reason it's easiest is because the leader knows what sections are dense/light, and can assign them appropriately.  We could very easily just chop it up into chapters and say x chapters/week, but it may end up that one chapter can be covered very quickly and doesn't require much discussion, whereas another chapter requires a lot of in depth thought.

Just my 2 cents.

From the groups I was apart of… the leader also help facilitate the conversation. They don't necessarily teach it, but rather, engage the group. If someone makes a comment about 'x' the leader might ask the group, 'have you considered y or z option.. what are the benefits/drawbacks of either option'.  In addition, the successful groups I've seen had a leader that was able to make sure the conversation stayed on track. Again, there are different approaches.. as long as we're all talking about the book, we can't go wrong. :)

I'll email Ed now and see if he'll create an unofficial study group messageboard where we can all start organizing it!!
